Rebuilding Momentum: How Alexis Schreiber Found Her Footing and Landed at PlayStation

There’s a certain kind of quiet resilience that shows up in the decision to keep going after a career setback, to sharpen skills instead of waiting for things to change, to trust that the work will speak for itself. That’s the kind of resilience Alexis Schreiber has.

Today, Alexis is a Communications Specialist at Sony PlayStation, where she creates and manages internal communications and training content for employees across the globe. Just a few months ago, she was navigating a job market that had grown increasingly unpredictable. Her journey runs straight through Clear Digital Labs.

A Foundation Built on Words

Alexis began her career in journalism, which gave her the ability to take complex information, distill it, and make it genuinely readable. She’s applied that same foundation in every role since.

At Sacramento Public Library, she managed large-scale public messaging and built CMS pages across multiple departments. At TRON DAO, she led content creation for a global audience of over two million users, translating technical topics into accessible, engaging copy. Freelance and contract work along the way strengthened her ability to manage multiple projects at once and adapt to the specific voice and goals of each organization she served.

By the time she came to CDL, Alexis already had more than five years of professional experience under her belt. But after being laid off in 2023 and spending time in a market reshaped by AI and increased competition, she was looking for a way to reconnect with her skills and stay sharp.

“CDL offered a way I could sharpen my skills and add to my portfolio,” she says. “While the job market can be unpredictable and discouraging at times, I appreciate how CDL has provided a place where not only you can work on your portfolio, but gain your self-confidence in your work again.”

Where the Learning Happened

One of the things Alexis talks about most when reflecting on her CDL experience is the difference between learning something and applying it under real conditions. The apprenticeship gave her both.

She managed content projects from concept to delivery, creating copy and video assets for social media while collaborating across teams with real clients, deadlines, and feedback to incorporate. She also contributed to work for Portugal Nature Trails, one of her favorite projects from that period.

“Working on real projects strengthened my communication, content strategy, and project management skills while giving me experience I could confidently speak to in interviews,” she says.

Those skills translated directly into her first weeks at PlayStation.

The Moment That Changed Everything

Alexis describes a specific shift that happened during her apprenticeship, a point where she stopped learning the workflow and started contributing to it. She was taking on assignments, understanding expectations quickly, and returning feedback in ways that improved her work without needing heavy direction.

“When I received feedback that my work aligned with team standards and was easy to build on, it confirmed that I wasn’t just completing tasks. I was adding real value.”

That’s the kind of moment that stays with you—not a grade or a certificate, but the lived experience of doing good work and having it recognized.

She brings that same approach to her work at Sony PlayStation every day. Alexis meets with subject-matter experts to understand new tools and processes, then translates that information into onboarding materials, knowledge base articles, FAQs, and internal guides used by employees across teams. She manages content in their CMS, reviews existing resources for accuracy, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to make sure everything is consistent and aligned with business goals.

“I focus on making information clear, relevant, and easy to understand,” she says. “That mindset has made me a stronger communicator and helps me create content that is both useful and impactful.”

More Than a Program

Beyond the skills, Alexis reflects warmly on the people she found at CDL.

“CDL is an incredible community of curious, driven, and like-minded people who are all working toward a common goal of growing their skills and supporting one another,” she says. “Every mentor is approachable, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping others succeed.”

She describes her CDL experience as catalytic. If it were a chapter in her life story, she would call it “Rebuilding Momentum.”

“It marked the shift from restarting to regaining momentum, and moving forward with clarity about the type of work and environments I want to grow in.”

Looking Forward

Five years from now, Alexis sees herself continuing to grow at Sony PlayStation, deepening her expertise in communications and content strategy while expanding her impact across larger, more strategic initiatives. In time, she’d like to take on a more senior role to help shape how information is structured and delivered across global teams. Alongside her career goals, she also dreams of writing a book one day.

For anyone who is currently where she was a year ago, job searching, feeling the weight of a market that’s hard to crack, unsure whether an apprenticeship is the right next move, she has a clear message:

“Do it. Be curious, ask questions, and take advantage of every opportunity to get involved. The more you put into the apprenticeship, the more you’ll get out of it.”

Alexis Schreiber is proof that starting over and leveling up can be the same thing. We’re proud to have been part of her story.

Thank you, Clear Digital Labs, for the thoughtful feature and for sharing my story.

Over the course of my decade-long career in journalism, I had the opportunity to tell countless stories about other people.

I can’t help but be a little amused that, years later, I now find myself on the other side of the byline.

I appreciate the opportunity to reflect on the experiences, decisions, and people that have shaped my career and led me to where I am today.
