A Spark for Marketing
Based in sunny San Diego, Griffin’s interest in marketing first sparked through social media. Like many creatives, he didn’t want to simply consume content—he wanted to create his own and share it with the world. He discovered Clear Digital Labs through his friend and classmate, Josh Walker. “Josh mentioned they were looking for new talent, and I needed experience, so it worked out perfectly,” Griffin shares.
Applying to CDL was about more than just getting a foot in the door. Griffin wanted to join a team that valued innovation and welcomed his ideas. “I wanted to work somewhere that would allow me to learn quickly and experiment with my own ideas,” he says. That combination of opportunity and mentorship made CDL the perfect place to start his marketing journey.
Immersive Learning and Early Experiences
From day one, Griffin’s apprenticeship gave him the chance to take ownership and make a real impact. He began with minor content creation tasks for a handful of clients, quickly learning the ins and outs of strategy, audience engagement, and brand identity.
“The experience gained in such a short amount of time is crazy to think about,” Griffin reflects. “I’ve worked with a variety of clients and businesses, and CDL has even given me the chance to implement my own ideas, brainstorm, and experiment alongside the team. It’s been a truly unique and invaluable experience.”
Even in these early stages, Griffin noticed how collaborative problem-solving is central to CDL’s culture. “Everyone has been open to ideas and feedback, which makes it a safe place to speak up, take risks, and learn from them,” he says.
Growth Through Challenges
As Griffin’s responsibilities grew, so did his skills. Today, his work spans graphic design and creative direction for both internal projects and client campaigns. He describes his biggest areas of growth as graphic design and communication skills.
“Hands-on experience has helped me improve my time management, critical thinking, and overall skillset as a marketer and designer,” he explains. While navigating bumps along the way wasn’t always easy, Griffin’s philosophy is to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn. “Setbacks with clients can be frustrating, but they’re necessary for growth. Each challenge teaches you something new about approaching problems creatively and strategically,” he adds.
Milestones and Favorite Projects
One of Griffin’s proudest achievements is his promotion to Marketing Specialist. “It means a lot personally and professionally,” he shares. “I’m still in the early stages of my career, so having the chance to work, learn, and grow in this field has been an amazing opportunity.”
Griffin’s favorite projects include CDL’s monthly blog carousels, which blend creativity with strategic storytelling. He also appreciates finding marketing hacks and tools that make work more efficient. “Canva is a much better design tool than people give it credit for,” he says with a smile.
Beyond marketing, Griffin shares a few fun facts about himself. He’s a bit nearsighted, with a prescription of -5.50, so he’s more likely than not wearing lenses while driving. And when it comes to staying fueled during long workdays, he’s firmly a coffee person—something we can certainly appreciate.
Advice for Fellow Apprentices
For those hoping to grow within CDL, Griffin emphasizes flexibility, proactivity, and creativity. “Make yourself as useful and flexible as possible, and don’t be afraid to pitch ideas,” he advises, noting that a willingness to take initiative and step outside your comfort zone is what really opens doors.
Looking Ahead
As Griffin continues his journey, his goal is simple yet powerful: keep learning. He hopes to expand his expertise, take on more creative direction projects, and further develop his marketing career. When asked where he sees himself in five years, he jokes, “Hopefully with more money than I have right now—but also with more experience, creativity, and impact.”
Reflecting on his time at CDL, Griffin describes this chapter of his career as a “Lucky Start.” “I’m not sure where else would’ve given me some of these opportunities so early in my career,” he says. “It’s a formative experience that’s helped me build confidence and grow professionally.”
